National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)

The National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) was created by CDC in 2010 for people with prediabetes. The National DPP lifestyle change program is an evidence-based program that reduces the risk for developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 58% in people with prediabetes who lose 5 – 7% of body weight. This twelve-month lifestyle change program can be delivered in-person, or virtually.

The University of Tennessee Extension, Family and Consumer Sciences joined the National DPP initiative. Extension agents/ educators who are trained as lifestyle coaches deliver the lifestyle change program in different counties across the state.
